Pirate Fancy Dress

Pirates have been a favorite down the ages for fancy dress party costumes. Though vicars and tarts, vampires and angels are common a few swash buckling pirates are sure to be on the guest list. Particularly with the popularity of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" films a Johnny Depp look is sure to go down well.

Pirates have held a timeless appeal and made great subjects for fancy dress whether male or female. If you plan to go partying as a pirate it's good to know you can get easy access to a variety of ready made pirate fancy dress.

Men have a choice between the traditional pantomime Captain Hook style, complete with hook hand of course, or the more up to date Captain Jack Sparrow style of slightly camp pirate. For women the sexy pirate look adds a new dimension and there are plenty of pirate fancy dress costumes with a risque flavor. If you want to go an extra mile, then the addition of a gypsy style skirt and head scarf or three cornered had still gives the look whilst being more 'family friendly'.

If you don't want to assume the role of a ready made pirate character then you may want to start from scratch and create your own. If you begin with baggy style clothes in bright red, purple, black or white then add boots and belt with large buckles you're well on the way to a good pirate style. Accessorize your dress with an eye patch, a bandana, some large ear-rings and of course the traditional hat or head scarf and the look is complete.

Though traditional, I wouldn't recommend the peg leg. It might be uncomfortable and not a great idea if you are looking at dancing all night.
Pirate fancy dress costumes offer great scope for accessories. You can add a parrot on the shoulder (I wouldn't recommend a real one though), a swash buckling sword or pistol (be careful if you take this on the bus to the party!) and the odd item of treasure in the pockets all for extra fun.

Apart from dressing as a pirate 'though you may like to talk the talk. A spot of "AAARR Jim Lad", "Yo ho ho" and greeting others with "Ahoy matey" is a good start. There's plenty of other traditional pirate lingo I'm sure you'll know only too well. Of course you'll need to adopt a piratical air too. A bit of friendly arrogance, a swagger in the walk and a voice that's just a little too loud to be polite would all mix in to the pot.

As the theme is so popular there are plenty of ready made pirate fancy dress costumes to be bought online at very small cost. Just make it loud and over the top and you'll be sure to be a hit at any fancy dress party.
